Iowa Central Volleyball Camps
Head Coach Bryan Crawford

Iowa Central’s new head volleyball coach Bryan Crawford doesn’t have the Tritons on a five-year plan, or even a two-year plan for success. They are on a this year plan.

“We aren’t just looking to compete, we are looking to go to the national tournament,” said Crawford. “Change needs to happen fast, and we are going to make it happen.”

Crawford is no stranger to success as a head coach. He comes to Iowa Central from NJCAA Division I program Snow College located in Ephraim, Utah. In just two seasons, Crawford took the SnowBadgers from an average program to one that cracked the national rankings for the first time since 1986. They were ranked as high as No. 13.

Crawford led Snow College to a 35-28 overall record and a 18-13 record in his final season despite playing in a conference that featured four Top 15 teams.

“We played the highest level of competition we could every night;  you didn’t come into our gym unless you were a ranked team” said Crawford. “It was a tough conference, we just beat up on each other all season long, but that’s why we were so good.”

Crawford got his coaching start while in college as he was a student coach at Utah State in 2001 and 2002. In 2002-03 he attended Moorpark College in Moorpark, Calif., where he played volleyball and was a student assistant for the women’s program. His playing career ended with a stint at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, in 2004-05.

He graduated from Utah Valley University in 2006 with a degree in International Business and received his Masters in Education from Pacific University in Oregon in 2008.

While at BYU Crawford began making the national camps and clinics circuit with Gold Medal Squared. The elite volleyball training service holds many volleyball camps and clinics yearly around the country. On total, he has performed over 100 camps and clinics across the country.

Crawford’s first head coaching job came in 2006 at Liberty in Hillsboro, OR. Not only was it Crawford’s first season as head coach, but it was the first season Liberty had a team. In its inaugural season, Liberty made it to the State Tournament. At the same time his club team, Oregon Juniors, qualified for the Junior Olympics. After another State Tournament appearance with Liberty and a Junior Olympics qualification with the Oregon Juniors, Crawford took the head job a Snow College in 2009.

Crawford again hopes to achieve success early with the Tritons. The thing that attracted him to Fort Dodge was the tradition of the athletic department.

“The tradition of Iowa Central and its historical dominance in athletics drew me towards the program,” said Crawford. “I want to be a part of that and I want to help build another strong program.”

Crawford said he plans on recruiting top-level talent and wants to bring in girls who will bring something to the program. He is looking for personality, dedication and the desire to play at the next level.

He is married to his wife Angela and they have two sons, Clayton (4) and Brody (1).
